Ostrander Lake Ski Hut, completed in 1941, was the last building erected in Yosemite by the Civilian Conservation Corps. From Yosemite's Badger Pass Ski Area, off Highway 41 a few miles north of Wawona, three trails lead to Ostrander Hut: Bridalveil Creek is the least difficult, Horizon Ridge offers the best views Advanced backcountry skiers and snowboarders also have the option of Ostrander Ski Hut, a stone shelter built in 1941. Tucked alongside Ostrander Lake at 8,500 feet, the hut is surrounded by thrilling backcountry slopes for experienced winter travelers. The best trip to Ostrander Lake, though, might be in mid-winter, when the Ostrander Ski Hut serves as an overnight lodge for cross-country skiers. The meadows along the early parts of the trail can be marshy in late May and early June.
